First apply a bandage to the leg (fig.1). Cut end of the foil pack and remove the flexible splint (fig.2). Cut to desired length with scissors and quickly replace any unused splint in the foil package and securely seal (fig.3). Note: Moisture in the air will cause the splint to harden. Stretch the soft outer fabric as needed to cover any exposed splint material & moisten with a small amount of water (fig.4). Wring out excess water (fig.5). Smooth the splint (fig.6) and check the length (fig.7). Press it in place at the desired location (fig.8). Using a bandage; wrap the splint beginning in the middle (fig.9). Wrap down the leg then back to the top (apply even pressure to conform the splint to the leg (fig.10). Fasten the Velcro at the top of the splint (fig.11). Have the patient stand quietly or hold the leg for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the splint set up. If the patient is too fractious administer sedation or remove the splint as it begins to set up and reapply when rigid. The splint may be applied directly to the limb in emergency situations due to the soft outer cover (fig.12). Use 2 or more splint layers for increased support. Examine the splint regularly for comfort and fit.
