"As a surgeon i have found The BOA to be an improvement over belly bands that I have used in the past." (11/18/06)
Nathan A. White II, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVS
"I have been using The BOA belly bandages since I started at EMC in July of this year. I had previously used white elastic bandages and have been very happy with The BOA belly bandages. They seem to stay in place better and I don't have to use Elastikon to keep them from slipping. Aslo, for horses with incisional scomplications it is very convenient to be able to look at the incision without removing the entire bandage...I have found your bellybjandages to be the best that I have used." "I have been using {The BOA} directly after surgery on all post-operative colic cases for the past serveral months. I have been impressed by the ease of use and fit around the abdomen. The tailoring of the ventral panel is very nice as it not hyelps prevent slipping and provies good support along the length of the badndage; it also prevents the males fom urinating on it. Perhaps the best feature is the removeable vertral panel. This alls us to impect the incision, ultrasound, or treat incisional infectiosn without removing the whole bandage..." (11/3/2006)

"The providing of an abdominal support wrap system is usually mirrored with difficulties in maintaining adjustments that provide for the dynamics of edema, confort to the patient and distraibution o fsupport over the back and entire trunk (Aright. M 1992)...A prototype abdoninal bandage {The BOA} is currently under development in the USA which appears to address the mainsay of abdominal wrap problems by using resilient material which will expand to conform in any direction pull and is easlily fastened with Velcro. The material can be cut for further adjustement while remaining on the horse and provides a ventral, removable flap for examination and treatment of incision lines."(Excerpt from a commentary written for Equine Veterinary Education )

"I have neglected to contact you and thank you for hte new Breast Strap. it's making things much easier. I dont know why I didn't think of it, but since the new piece was shipped with the fastening tabs lower down on the straps, it finally occurred to me to shorten the straps for this filly by folding the strap ends under and moving the fastening tab lower down on the strapl. This has made a big difference in the whoel bandage staying in place better. Thanks again for yoru superior products."

The BOA applied to a broodmare following c-section and colic surgeries with a failing incision unresponsive to therapy. She was turned out the next day of application allowing exercise. |
 |
One of our original BOA's applied to a TB maire for abdominal support with a foal at her side. This permits comfortbale support while protecting the incision from the foal. |

This case is a very sick newborn patient with a poor prognosis at a teaching hospital in Virginia. We adapted a BOA by adding an extension for support of bilateral inguinal hernias following dystocia. This foal requires support of the ventral pelvic area to reduce and control pending surgical intervention. As you can see this patient is in poor condition but with proper nursing care has a reasonable prognosis. The skin lesions are due to the fact that the foal was unable to stand for several days after birth and had to be immobnilized due to the server hernias. We will have more photos as a case report as the case progresses. This case is very gratifying to me as a veterinarian and a designer of BOA. ONce again results show that the BOA is state of the art and also uses are limited only by lack of imagination.

The BOA ™ has been used successfully to treat a broad spectrum of cases. These include: |
- The support of the abdomen following colic surgery 10 days pre-partum in a TB mare. She delivered without a problem and healed successfully.
- Post-operative incisional support in multiple colic patients as well as the treatment of incisional with pending failure and dehiscence. All have healed successfully without hernia.
- The post-op treatement of a central Kentucky stallion following his second colic surgery (colon torsion). He recovered uneventfully and is currently covering mares without discomfort.
- Post-op support in a race filly with colic resulting to reduced healing time and quick return racing. She has returned to racing and won her first start back in allowance company.
- Multiple foals with colic and umbilical surgeries.
- A yearling with hernia development following two colic surgeries. the filly was placed in a binder with regular tightening to reduce the size of the hernia so that it could be repaired successfully without the need for surgical mesh. She was maintained in
post-op to support the surgery site and has healed uneventfully.
is now being used successfully to deal with many difficult cases worldwidein countries including England, Ireland, South Africa, Itally, Austalia, etc.
- These are just a few examples of th uses for
in only a few months since it's release. Please contact us if you have either an interesting case history or questions regarding a case you are treating.
